Introduction

Primary health care is often the first contact a person has with the health system and can be delivered in various settings, by a range of providers. It may be provided by general practitioners (GPs) within general practice or in an aged care or community setting, by public or private service providers. Nursing care, midwifery, pharmacy, dentistry, Aboriginal health services, and allied health care are also examples of primary care services.

This atlas includes details of Medicare-subsidised GP services (total number of services), GP mental health care services and services by allied health professionals for mental health care.

The Single Map allows users to explore and understand patterns and trends for selected 2022/23 Medicare-subsidised mental health care services by Statistical Areas Level 3 (SA3) based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 Australian Statistical Geographical Standard (ASGS).
